COMPASSIONATE CARE FOR ALL STAGES OF LIFE AT CLIENT CARE FIRST

Illawarra Mercury | May 2025

At Client Care First, their approach to palliative care is centred on dignity, comfort and compassion. They understand that end-of-life care is not just about managing symptoms - it's about honouring the individual and supporting what matters most to them.

Director Meryn Martin said they empower their clients to make informed choices and work alongside them to achieve their personal goals.

"Our mission goes beyond providing exceptional person-centred care; we're dedicated to helping our clients live fulfilling lives, achieve their bucket list goals and create meaningful, lasting experiences," Meryn said.

"We offer dedicated palliative care units for participants when remaining at home is no longer viable, as well as in-home palliative support in collaboration with the NSW Health Palliative Care team. Our care is delivered in a homelike environment by 24/7 trained disability support staff and an on-call registered nurse, available to guide and support staff and families with clinical needs."

Client Care First, proudly supports people with disabilities and their families across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions. In addition to palliative care, their other core services include:

■ Accommodation

■ Community nursing

■ Community participation

■ Life stage transition assistance

■ Group outings and centre-based activities

■ Supported group travel and experiences

■ Outside school hours care

■ Professional training and development

Founded in 2019, Client Care First proudly marked their sixth anniversary in February 2025. What truly sets them apart is their dedicated, compassionate team - each member brings a unique blend of empathy, creativity and commitment to enriching their clients' lives in meaningful ways.

"We go beyond traditional care by helping our clients achieve personal and bucket list goals, creating experiences that spark joy and leave lasting memories," Meryn said.

"Whether it's a relaxing getaway like our group cruise to Tangalooma, learning a new hobby or reconnecting with a special place, our team works closely with each client to turn aspirations into reality. These moments are more than just events or activities - they're milestones that celebrate life, individuality and the power of compassionate care. And that's what we're most proud to support."

During National Palliative Care Week on May 11-17, Client Care First will be sharing meaningful resources and reflections to promote understanding, reduce stigma and encourage open conversations around palliative care.

"It's a time for us to reaffirm our commitment to delivering person-centred, dignified care that respects every individual's wishes at the end of life," Meryn said.

"Our philosophy is simple - to help create moments of connection, comfort and peace, and to support families during one of life's most challenging journeys with empathy and respect."

Client Care First is pleased to announce that they have new accommodation coming in October 2025. In partnership with Canopy SDA they have created accessible, independent housing for clients in Albion Park.

They have also expanded their services to better support families and now offer before and after school support, school holiday programs and movie nights.
